After a long time off I bring you two new mashups, both featuring "Bulletproof" by La Roux.

The first is La Roux vs Chuck Carr....never heard of him ???? - Well you have now. He wrote the theme tune to the PS3 game "PAIN" and I just though it would fit "Bulletproof" perfectly.

The second mash is a fusion with Andy Hunter's "Sound Pollution". You may have heard of him, maybe not? Either way, visit his site, buy his tunes and enjoy.....he is pretty good.

Well, after a fairly long absence I am back with this 3 minute fusion of one of the finest song writers in recent history, Neil Finn's 'Crowded House' and recent Timbaland buddies, 'OneRepublic'.

I have been a fan of Crowded House for as long as I can remember and was lucky to see them live on the 'Woodface' tour many years ago. I thought the time was due for a Crowded House mash and so here is the first of a Neil Finn trilogy. Using the "Mean To Me" acapella and mixing with the Timbaland instrumental version of "Apologize", ladies and gentlemen.......for your listening pleasure.......I bring you.....divorce.......a padded cell.....and....suicide.......yes, not a happy mash this one but it might just bring a smile to your face !!

Not bad for a little website designed by a bloke with little knowledge of web design, meta tags and all that mullarkey. F.E.A.R In Lila's Eyes

This mashup features an instrumental track called "Lila" by Vas - a duo of American percussionist Greg Ellis and vocalist Azam Ali (who is also an awesome hammered dulcimer player, as you can here on this track)

I first heard this track whilst watching the first Tomb Raider film. It isn't actually featured on the album so I had to hunt around a bit and finally found the album on itunes.

I have always wanted to use the track in a mash but never found the 'right' match. An excuse to use it came in the form of the latest Sound-UnSound compilation, "Bhangra Booty".

I wanted to use the Vas track but really wanted to make it more busy and give the mash a real 'ethnic/indian, busy market street sound'.

I chose Ian Brown's 'F.E.A.R' as the perfect instrumental to match the 'Lila' track (and the real bonus was the fact that it was in key !!!) but the problem was finding the perfect acapella ???

Kelly Clarkson wasn't the first choice. The mash first had a male pella but something just wasn't gelling and although I have used the Kelly Clarkson pella before, mashed with Coldplay, I didn't mind using it again.

The end result is exotic, busy, dreamy, but most of all, in time and in key LOL (always a bonus)

Amy MacDonald vs Ne-Yo Mashup

Right, first off - this is not a combination that most people would think off. In fact, most people would probably be turned off at the thought of the 'Gentleman of R&B' fused with the Scotland's latest songstress(is that even a word ?) - but think again because this fusion really does work.....

Described by one person as my best mash since "Lullaby In Your Eyes" (although to be fair that person was my wife) this turns Ne-Yo's hit "Closer" on it's head, slows it down quite a bit and merges it with Amy's "Footballer's Wife" from her album "This Is The Life".

The end result is beautiful melancholy, swirling strings based ballad that may bring tears to your eyes - although no guarantee can be made of this.

"SPOOKS" BBC1 Main Theme - Bobby's Make It Last Mix

A few months ago I remixed the theme tune to the BBC1 series "Life On Mars". It went down really well and I got a few emails from thanking me for it.

One of the emails asked if I had thought about remixing the theme from "Spooks" - I hadn't even heard the theme at the time but after getting hold of it, written by the excellent Jennie Muskett I knew straight away I wanted to give it a whole new sound.

Seeing as everyone thinks of Spys as being sexy (just look at James Bond for instance !) I wanted to give the theme a bit of a sexy twist. The result is a mash of the theme with "Make It Last" by Dave Aude and Jessica Sutta (from the Pussycat Dolls).

It certainly lasts a lot longer that the theme does on the programme !

Featuring one of my favourite Genesis tracks, "Man On The Corner" taken from the ever superb album 'Abacab' and the 2008 version of Fragma's "Toca's Miracle", I think I have just given old Phil Collins a bit of cred...........maybe ??

"There's No Hiding Place" was featured on both Scott Johnson's Ramdomthoughts show and got it's first worldwide radio play on 17th Oct by Sim Courtie on BFBS Radio 1. Thanks to both of you for your support.

Kate Bush vs Nightcrawlers - "Running Up That Feeling" Mashup

Well, this is not a combo most people would think of but I'm not most people.

Probably the greatest living UK Female artist, Kate Bush, fused with one of Scotland's most prolific song writers, John Reid aka Nightcrawlers, produces something quite sublime really.

Take Kate's "Running Up That Hill" and blend it with a couple of different versions of Nightcrawlers "Push The Feeling On" and you get "Running Up That Feeling".

This is the second mashup I have produced at my recently aquired 'Touchpad Studios', the first being "Killer Client" and I'm liking what I'm producing there.

The Killers vs Client Mashup - "Killer Client

I am pleased to finally announce the long awaited release of my latest mash - Killer Client.

It's a fusion of The Killers "Somebody Told Me" and Client's "Radio". If you are not familiar with Client then I hope that might change after listening to this mash.

A version of this was featured a few weeks ago on BFBS Radio 1. You can now download for free two different versions of the track - a 7" Edit and the Extended 'Hattie' Mix. I decided to do an edited version as the extended mix comes in at nearly 8 minutes although I have to say it's the better of the two but the choice is yours.

Thanks to Sim @ BFBS for the initial play. Big thanks to Simon Iddol @ APC for the world premiere this week and a mega huge thanks to 'Hattie' for introducing me to Client in the first place !

Bobby Martini - My Week In Review - Friday 25th July 2008

When I started this blog I intended it to be not just a place for me to inform you fine readers of my new mashups and remixes, but to also rant or rave about anything in particular. Well, after looking back at the past few months posts, I realise I haven't ranted or raved about much at all. That is about to change.

Starting today I shall be writing my weekly review of the past 7 days, giving you a little insight as to what the real Bobby Martini is liking and disliking. It's a way for me to vent my spleen a bit - plus I'm crap at writing and at least this way I can keep a diary and still read it (unlike my writing, which is like a pissed spider)

I have decided to introduce a rating system of my experiences. Nothing complicated - honest !
If something/someone pleases me, makes me laugh, makes my life easier - they will be awarded a CLAP'EM. If however it/they displease me - they will be awarded a SLAP'EM.

CLAP'EM - Round of applause/slap on the back/a general thank you.
SLAP'EM - Exactly that. A slap. A good hard one in some cases. In fact, in a lot of cases a good kick in the kidneys wouldn't go a miss.

Get the picture ? Good. Lets take a look at the last week then..................

Last weekend (18th & 19th July) I attended, along with some friends, the London Film & Comicon. Let me say for the record the emphasis is on the last three letters - CON. Bloody hell. I have attended this event for quite a few years now. If you are a fan of comics, films, props, autographs and the like, then this is the place for you. This year was f**king dire though. Held in Earls Court 2 (which is a big bloody hall) - it was only half full. Unfortunately the admission price was still the same though !

The promise of some props from the Indiana Jones films was quite appealing for me. How dissapointed was I to see some items that looked as if they had been cobbled together by the kids at the local 'special needs' school. If they were in the Indiana Jones trilogy then I am the Pope.

The stalls/standsexhibitors that decided to show up were the usual mish-mash of overpriced tat and junk. I don't think I found one DVD for sale that wasn't double the price of the same thing in HMV or Zavvi.

All in all it was crap and I won't be going again. Showmasters, who run this effort, should be ashamed of themselves for conning people into paying an entrance fee for this farce. The crew we spoke to were full of the usual shit too, commenting on the reasons for the lack of stalls to be......."because the standard of guests sigining autographs was so high, it was thought that the public wouldn't have the money to spend on purchasing items" - what a crock of steaming shit. The reason there wasn't so many stands is that they too think the LFCC is crap and didn't want to turn up. The whole thing is run by complete muppets.

I must say however that the highlight for me was the people who chose to dress up - known in the industry as Cosplayers. There were some sterling efforts. Hellboy (although the paint was running down his neck a bit), Alien, Predator, some characters from Disney's Enchanted,Lara Croft, Jessica Rabbit, Thundercats, that sort of thing, but the creme de la creme was the World Record attempt to get as many people dressed in Star Wars costumes in one place at the same time. There were quite a few stormtroopers, a very small Darth Vader (so small in fact I thought he might have been the Lego version), some Jedi's (no idea of the names, just take your own and reverse it - it will probably be near enough) and a slave Princess Leia who was so big I thought she had come as Jabba the Hutt. I also feel the need to point out that just wearing a Stormtrooper helmet with a white shirt and a pair of white trousers does not count as a Stormtrooper outfit - you know who you are. Also the man with a black hoodie top and black jeans with his face painted black and red does not really qualify as Darth Maul - I mean..........come on.

I have no idea if they broke the record or not. If it was based on accuracy - I'm guessing they didn't !

London Film and Comic Con - SLAP'EM - Money grabbing, couldn't organise a piss-up in a brewery, bastards !

I stayed at the Earls Court Ibis hotel for the duration of the weekend. I wish I hadn't. The beds are so hard I wished I had slept on the f**king pool table in the bar. Oh, and here is an idea for any Ibis staff/Directors reading this (unlikely I know!) - how about supplying more than one pillow, the thickness of a bloody Ryevita, in the room !
The staff were worse than f**king useless too. I just want to say a huge thank you to the stupid cow at reception who decided to make my card key invalid, even though I hadn't checked out and still had all my DJ gear including laptop in the room, available for any f**king cleaner to whip away. Thank you so much. I hope your green card comes through soon lovey !!!!

IBIS Earls Court - SLAP'EM - Hard beds, crap staff, dirty bathroom, No f**king WI-FI unless you want to mortgage your house to pay for an hour, and the pool table in the bar was on the piss too.

So where do you go for a meal whilst in Earls Court ? Well it's not exactly known as the heart of the city is it? Me and 12 other friends (yes I do have some) decided to book a table at the Tandori Garden, 98 Lillie Rd, Earls Court. Good food, crap service and the air conditioning left an awful lot to be desired. If Nasa or someone like Richard Branson ever decide to do trips to the Sun, don't bother wasting your money, just go to the Tandoori Garden instead. The temperature must have been 40 degrees plus in there that night. And I still think my wife is waiting for her drink !

Tandoori Garden Earls Court - SLAP'EM - Too bloody hot to enjoy a good meal. I'm pretty sure that gave us too many Pilau Rice and charged us for them - the conning buggers !

Now, onto music and mashups and all that shit. A highlight for me this week was hearing my good mate Colatron's latest mash. A combo of Kylie Minogue and Angelo Badalamenti (the man who did the music from Twin Peaks). I would describe Smartie's latest offering as nothing short of Genius. In fact I wouldn't be suprised if the old Bonsai Boomerang Bint didn't decide to use this version in her live shows to be honest - it's that good. I also reckon it might just make the Anti Hit List !!! - Remember where you read it first !!

Colatron - Twin Hearts - CLAP'EM - Thanks mate for this sublime fusion. It's one of your best productions. It made me laught, smile and dance all at the same time. It works on so many levels. Magnifico !!!!

Simon Iddol released the latest WHA ! Compilation this week. The Summer of Love 2008 EP is a seven track mini album of some of the best tracks I have heard in a while. My latest Beatles v Sunscreem is on it and I am in good company with some of the best mashup producers in the world. It's been on repeat on many occasion in Martini Towers this week.

WHA ! Summer of Love 2008 - CLAP'EM - Cheers Simon for taking the time to put this together. I know you have mentioned this may be the last compo you do but I hope you have a change of heart. It's a great one this one. Not many tracks but I really think it's a case of quality of quantity.

My contribution to this album/EP was posted on my site a few days ago with relevant threads to inform people of it's availablity on various forums. My thread on Gybo was locked because of some bullshit excuse about double/cross posting. It's never been a problem before with my compo releases but hey ho ! - It's difficult to remember where the goalposts are when people keep moving them. I remember seeing some graffiti in Brighton a while back saying 'MODS RULE' - well they certainly do on Gybo - it's just a pity they don't have the decency to reply to Personal Messages !

Mod Who Locked My Thread - SLAP'EM - Heil ....

Well I think that will do. I have done a lot more than this of course. I have been on the Wii Fit and lost a bit of weight (although my balance is still crap though - that may be due to the drink and drugs more than anything !) - I have learned that a couple of my mates have been made redundant - SLAP'EM to the employers - bastards ! And a shed load of other stuff that I can't be bothered to write.

My good mate, Simon Iddol, has compiled another fantastic compilation album over at his WHA! Studios and I was fortunate enough to be one of the mashup producers invited along.

Summer Of Love 2008 features some classic 60's and 70's tracks mashed with some equally superb late 80's and early 90's rave choons for a mini album/EP of complete pleasure.

My track is a fusion of The Beatles "Here Comes The Sun" and Sunscreem's "Release Me".

The end result is "Here Comes The Sunscreem"

"Some Kinda Fantasy" - Timbaland vs Booty Luv (Mash Up)

This mash was my submission for the ever excellent Sound-Unsound 'Summer Booty' collection.

A fusion of Booty Luv's "Some Kinda Rush" (yes I know I am addicted to them at the moment !) and Timbaland's "Fantasy" from his shock value album, this mash lulls you into a false sense of serenity before smacking you round the face a few minutes from the end.

The waves you hear at the intro were recorded at Jaywick Sands, which I hear may be used for the UK version of CSI so watch this space !!!!! The car you hear is mine, a Corvette......yeah right !

I won't give away too many details but all I will say is it features pop goddess Kate Bush fused with the scottish songwrting master John Reid. Who ? I hear you say - Well John Reid was the genius behind Nightcrawlers and he is now one of the UK's most prolific songwriters, writing for people such as Kelly Clarkson and Leona Lewis.

"Shine Yet Suffer Well" - Depeche Mode vs Booty Luv

This mash was a real struggle for me. I wanted to do something a bit different for Scott Johnson's 100th Ramdom Thoughts show and knowing he was a huge Depeche Mode fan, I thought it quite fitting to produce a DM themed mash. I had been playing around with the Booty Luv pella for a few days but all the tracks I matched it with were all too similar. I decided to go completely out of the box with this one and mash two very different songs and genres. This mash went through about 7 different versions before I settled for this one.

I think it works and hopefully you will to. If you don't, no worries, the next mash will follow shortly !

This mash was almost completed ages ago but it lacked something. That 'something' was a suitable rap pella and that was supplied by my good mate Guv'nor, who also supplied the amazing cover art.

This mash features a track written by Scottish film composer Craig Armstrong entitled "The Ball", taken from the film 'Plunkett and Macleane'. It's a superb piece of music with a real techno/industrial theme (well at least I think so !! LOL)

"UGLY BITCH BALL" features Sugababes on main vocals, Busta Rhymes, Will I Am and Kelis on support and can be found @ my site on mashups page 7.

Life On Mars - Bobby Martini Mix

Life On Mars was a superb time travel drama that ran for two series on BBC1. The theme tune, written by Edmund Butt, was clever in that it had a modern feel whilst still fitting in perfectly with tunes from the past such as Randall and Hopkirk and Saint etc.

The tune was written by Edmund Butt, who also wrote the music for the follow up series, Ashes to Ashes, Afterlife and Sea of Souls. My only gripe with the theme tune was the length - it was too short. In view of this I have extended it and remixed it. I have added some additional music by myself and also dropped in some speech clips from the show from stars John Simm and Philip Glenister.

I'm Back : Pink vs Alesha Dixon Mashup

Well I'm back...........sorry for the lack of new material in recent weeks/months everyone. Had to take some time out but I'm back with this complete "Diva-Fest". Featuring everyone's favourite short blonde haired (with a hint of pink sometimes) very athletic, yet very alluring PINK fused with the UK's beautiful, current champ of Strictly Come Dancing ALESHA DIXON. It's not often mashups get this gorgeous ;)

I started this mash way back in the Summer of 07. It was almost finished but I held back from releasing because I always ended up finishing something else and releasing that instead. I finally got round to polishing this off a couple of weeks ago and here it is in all of it's MP3 glory.

Oh, and if you are wondering why it's called "Alecia vs Alesha" - basically, for those who don't know.......Pink's real name is Alecia Moore......fancy that !!!

My latest offering is a fusion of two acts that would not normally go together.......or would they ?

Imogen Heap's "Hide and Seek" from her album "Speak for Yourself" has been mashed many times but for this track I have decided to use the song "Headlock" which opens the album. Together with Timbaland's take on the OneRepublic single "Apologise" featuring the amazing vocal and writing talent of Ryan Tedder, this mash gives a whole new spin on both tracks.

I decided to keep the artwork really simple on this - I wanted to give it an almost 'photo-copied' look and I think I have achieved this.

Canada's Toronto newspaper, 'The Star', features columnist's John Sakamoto's Anti-Hit List every week. It features his own top ten of alternative, sublime tracks some of which are album tracks, unsigned bands, mashups and remixes.

On November 17th John featured my own 'Mercy For The Scientist' from my 'Mercy Street EP' at number 8 in the chart. I have been featured a few times on the top ten before but not for a while so it was great to be mentioned again.

John described my mashup like this........"On which U.K. mash-up artist Bobby Martini works his recombinant magic on Gabriel's poignant "Mercy Street" by pairing it with Coldplay's simpatico "The Scientist" and the less obviously compatible "I just want real love" chorus from the early Pink single, "Most Girls." I'm Not Retiring !

Over the past few days a couple of websites have reported that I am no longer producing mashups and I have retired from the scene. This is not true, however this mis-information is largely my fault and I feel I should explain what has happened.

On various forums I recently posted a thread to my recent Jamelia v Cameo mashup. One of the lines read : "My last mashup ("
This should have read - "My last mashup (for at least a few weeks due to holiday and other commitments)"
Unfortunately, half way through typing my post I was interrupted by a visitor and genuinely forgot to finish the sentence. I clicked the 'publish thread' button and that was that.

I knew nothing of the repsonse to this because I have also had problems with my email account, my ISP and my web server.
A good close mashup friend phoned me to ask "what the hell is all this last mashup about" - and I didn't have a bloody clue what he was talking about !

Add to this some recent changes to my facebook profile - which were meant as 'in' jokes for close friends and family members and the whole thing has blown up without me knowing much about it.

The simple fact is I am not retiring - however, due to some recent surgery I have to take some time out as my health is not at it's best. I am going to re-charge my batteries in America for a couple of weeks, record a 'secret' project whilst there and hopefully return refreshed and ready for some exciting months ahead. In view of this I won't be releasing any new material for some time.

I am sorry for any confusion, upset or puzzlement this caused. None of it was deliberate and it was not done as a stunt. Just a simple case of mis-communication - most of it caused by me, with no thanks to my useless ISP and email providers !!!!!

I hope this clears things up.
